What is the Executive Development Program?
A comprehensive training program that prepares you to be an assistant buyer for Neiman Marcus.

How long does the program last?
Twelve weeks.

Are you paid while in the program?
Yes, the program is a full-time salaried position.  This program is not an internship.

What is the program like?
A combination of classroom-based learning in areas like retail math and merchandise planning, as well as, rotations through different buying offices.

Where does the program take place?
This program is offered exclusively at our corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas.

What happens once I complete the program?
You will be placed as an assistant buyer in one of our Dallas/Forth Worth area based buying offices: Neiman Marcus Stores, NM Last Call, NM Direct, or CUSP.

How long will I be an Assistant Buyer?
For approximately 2 1/2 to 3 years.

What are the responsibilities of an Assistant Buyer?

  • Assist buyer in achieving sales and gross margin plans
  • Oversee vendor support and store communication
  • Assist in financial planning and monthly forecasting
  • Execute marketing events and advertising processes
  • Recap and analyze selling trends
  • Manage product receipts
  • Assist buyer in product selection and identification of fashion trends
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the buying office
  • Set up locker stock and replenishment programs
  • Oversee purchase order mechanics
  • Oversee inventory management
  • Develop strategic plans, budgets, and recaps

What formal education is required for this program?
A bachelor's degree.

Is retail experience a prerequisite for the program?
No, but it is a plus.

What qualities does an ideal EDP candidate possess?
Strong analytical, communication, leadership, and time management skills.

When is the program offered?
The program is offered two to three times a year, generally in February, June, and September.
