What is the Executive Development Program?
The first step for those interested in a career in Neiman Marcus merchandising.

What comprises Neiman Marcus Merchandising?
Neiman Marcus is a multichannel organization with merchant divisions representing both our stores and direct (catalog and online) divisions.

What formal education is required for this program?
A bachelor's degree.

Is retail experience a prerequisite for the program?
No, but it is a plus.

What qualities does an ideal EDP candidate possess?
A passion for luxury retailing and a commitment to excellence, as well as strong analytical, communication, leadership, and time management skills.

How long does the program last?
Twelve weeks.

When is the program offered?
Three times each year – January, June, and September.

Where does the program take place?
At our corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas.

What will I learn in this program?
Theoretical understanding and practical experience necessary for Neiman Marcus merchandising in either our stores division or direct division.

What is the program like?
A combination of classroom-based learning in areas such as retail math and budgeting, as well as on-the-job rotations through different buying offices.

What happens once I complete the program?
You'll progress to an Assistant Buyer or Assistant Merchandise Planner position within one of our Dallas buying offices.

How long will I be an Assistant Buyer or Assistant Merchandise Planner?
For approximately two years.

What are the responsibilities of an Assistant Buyer and Assistant Merchandise Planner?
These positions center around three primary customer groups – buyers, vendors and Neiman Marcus stores or Neiman Marcus Direct. The ability to complete mathematical calculations and analyze trends accurately while under time constraints is essential for both positions.

More specifically, an Assistant Buyer:
• Oversees vendor support and store communication
• Executes marketing events and advertising processes
• Recaps and analyzes selling trends
• Assists buyer in achieving sales and gross margin plans
• Oversees product receipts
• Assists buyer in product selection and identification of fashion trends
• Manages operations of the buying office

More specifically, an Assistant Merchandise Planner:
• Sets up locker stock and replenishment programs
• Recaps and analyzes selling trends
• Oversees purchase order mechanics
• Assists buyer in achieving sales and gross margin plans
• Oversees inventory management
• Develops strategic plans, budgets, and recaps
• Manages operations of the buying office

Are you paid while in the program?
Yes, the program is a full-time salaried position.
